Remember yesterday I said my pattern was still in my illegible shorthand? Hmmm… I forgot to write down the increase at row 40. So that’s why I’m unraveling stitch by stitch … ho hum.
It could be worse, I’m sitting by a fire in my makery den with only the sounds of the trees and passing trains. Did I mention the fire?
Anyway, I sewed up the first leg today and it fits nicely. Some leg /ankle warmers are made for skinny Minnie’s. Not here. Remember strong is the new skinny. I’m catering for calf muscles! I’ll work out a narrow version, in the interests of diversity!
Anyway having just one on made me want to break out my cool roller skates… yes, I think these are mine!!! All mine!!!!
I’m taking a break from knitting second leg of the leg warmers as I can’t find my anti histamine and I’ve got itchy eyes and mouth. I’m teaching spin in a bit so I’m giving it a chance to calm down!
It is more usual for leg warmers to be knitted on 3 or 4 needles; that’s maybe why I hate doing them so much… Apart from that I wanted to make something that could be recreated easily by a beginner. Wrestling with lots of needles is not very beginner friendly. That said, my husband went to a Steiner school in Edinburgh and they made socks as their learning to knit project.
This pattern introduces the beginner to simple increases, changing colour and rib. The Super Chunky yarn knits up quickly so even the slowest knitter will be able to see good progress which is a great motivator. The sewing up will also introduce mattress stitch (or Henson stitch as I first came across it making puppets!)
The next stage will be to try it out in different brands of yarn to see how they come out and each repetition gives me the opportunity to check the pattern. At the moment it’s in my pretty illegible shorthand on the back of one of my doodles.
I’d love these leg warmers to be mine, but I think they’ll just make me itch! Let’s see hey!?
Oh my! I just LOVE this. It’s going to be a wrench to sell it. It’ll suit those with long hair in a pony tail just as much as those with short hair…I really enjoyed knitting it, I love cable and am working on some new designs. The trick then will be to work out how to do them… I might need a grown up to help! Oh wait, I am the grown up… apparently.
I’m waiting for a new batch of Om charms to arrive so I can see them on, then expect to see a massive overhaul if my selling page and Etsy. Until then I’m working on a gorgeous ankle warmer in 100% wool. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t causing a few issues. I rubbed my eyes while knitting and it was game over for at least half an hour. Right now though I’m going to get back to my book, the one I’m writing in knitting. That one! 📖 while repeating the mantra, I know my stuff…
Today we wound up a family weekend away with a trip to Taunton to see my in laws. And very lovely it was too!
And here’s me, knitting cable in a moving van while playing eye spy – how’s that for extreme knitting! I also worked back stitches through several rows where it became evident I got the stitch wrong. Knitting like a Boss, that’s how I feel (I’d strongly recommend Fearless knitting from Craftsy). It’s rare I feel accomplished at anything. I usually I dismiss it as being easy or meaningless when ever I could feel accomplished so I’m super glad to be able to acknowledge not only the personality trait but also revise it.
Anyway, I finished this gorgeous extra wide ear warmer… I love this yarn. Gutted it’s no longer available; I’ve traveled through all the knitting sights and ebay to no avail. I’m not sure this one will be for sale.., always a good sign when I get possessive…
Nothing like a nice cup of tea after a wet and windy day. Check out these lovely mitts too, so cosy and just the thing for the first ice skating session in over 20 years! Not that I got to wear them much; the little once had them on for most of it!
Anyway skating around reminded me of the roller discos we went to as kids at The Ritzy in Plymouth, the hair, the make up, the ra at skirts and of course the leg warmers. I don’t have a very good track record for knitting leg warmers but I’ve been inspired! I’ve got some of this lovely red sparkly yarn at home, or maybe some super chunky… hmmmm🤔
This place gives me peace and the space to think. We are so lucky. Today I started writing the introduction to my knitting book. I feel like I’ve been treading water for most of the year and unable to write anything but today I felt a shift. A
I think spending a bit of time getting the Makery sorted has helped a great deal. The more observant among you might notice that’s it’s a big ole van that’s been converted. My husband is so supportive and he put the fire in and laid the floor and so on. He is a wonderful man.
The market I’ve been working towards has been cancelled due to bad weather. I’m sad about that. However every cloud has a silver lining.., ok, some don’t, some come with an extra lining of poo 💩 but it’s not the end of the world.
It made me get my s**t together instead of just merrily knitting stuff, and it focused my mind. So this morning I took a load of stuff to the tip (I love going to the tip) and things are looking a bit less like Steptoes Yard. And now here I am in my lovely makery, with the fire roaring again, not because it’s cold but because I like lighting fires. To be honest I’ve got the door open as it’s sooooooo hot! And I’m planning, thinking and having some quiet time.
UUGGHHHH! Feeling proper poorly today. Not only that, my soya milk has gone off and I can’t face tea with cows milk…. not today! (First world problems I know!)
There’s so much to do to get ready for the Market at Mount Edgcumbe this weekend. This is one of those days when it could be hard to find the happy spark; that is unless you own superhero pants! Other pants can also work… a friend of mine has a pair with Animal from the Muppets on for just this sort of day!
So, onwards and upwards (to the shop first though to get some soya milk). I’m decorating display heads today (among other things) and hoping the glue dries for the weekend… so far, so still tacky… dry damnit!
Here we are, day 3 of #100happydays. Yesterday’s is on my Facebook page. It’s harder this time as previously many (most) pictures were of my family.
My little one is 6 and I don’t feel it’s appropriate to share images of her Willy-Nilly, especially in such a public forum. Take it as a given my family are the root, the foundation of my happiness, even on days when they are really p***ing me off!
Today I’m weighing the things I’ve knitted. If these colours don’t scream AUTUMN 🍂, I don’t know what does! I’m weighing them as they’re new patterns and I’m seeing how consistent I am … pretty much. I accidentally tossed the last set of digital weighing scales in the sink after some baking (note to self, do not use these for baking, you have other scales -use them)
I have a market at the weekend which I’m getting ready for…. must crack on.
Apparently it’s 100 days until Christmas – I’ve been reminded by several emails all promoting a wide array of bargains.I think I supposed to be panicked into starting shopping or something! 100 days is actually quite a long time.
About 4 years ago I took a challenge of posting a picture for 100 happy days. Sometimes it was easy and obvious while others I really had to work hard at finding something positive. It taught me a lot.
So it’s 100 days until Christmas; I’m going to enjoy each one, after all, I enjoy the build up as much, maybe more. There’s the knitting for a start. Yes, I’ll be knitting gifts for friends and family; some have put in requests which makes things easy. Then there’s the cooking, I love making mince pies and my husband and I both like making the cake so let’s see who gets it together this year; last year neither of us did!😂😂. Then there’s letters to Father Christmas, knitting more stuff for the stall as I have a few markets coming up. But first we have several family birthdays Halloween, Bonfire night and a whole host of other stuff. And ticking along the whole time is the daily stuff, housework, shopping, homework, Netflix binges.
Let’s fill those 100 days with love and meaning. Let our best gifts to those we love be ourselves. Let whatever we can do be enough. To come from a place a love and integrity is all we can of ourselves and each other. Let the better days fill our cup so we can weather the harder ones when we have to look for the chunk of sunlight.
